four days weekends are so good

because of a bank day last Thursday, we had a four days weekend. The boys have become such homebodies, like their mama (aren't I proud ? you bet ! LOL) So we didn't go very far during these 4 days, and really I couldn't be happier. I love being outdoors, but I love being indoors just as much ! (sounds well balanced, right ?!) So I did manage to sew little thing for the shop. Lavender strawberries & jam jar covers.

jam jar covers | white linen
lavender strawberries | fresh + white linen
lavender strawberries | provencal trio
lavender strawberries | fresh + chambray

I've been on a roll, a strawberry roll (mmm, a strawberry roll ... eheh), haven't I ?!

we've also been dyeing during these four days. Three times, to be precise. Once with the cornflowers (will show results tomorrow, I have to take photos, but anyway, don't expect blue), once with onion skins (staying overnight, will rince & dry & show tomorrow I suppose) and the third one was in fact the start of a solar dye, made with cornflower heads (full, not only with the petals). So I can't share any results until it's over. So we had to go out to pick more cornflowers, only hubby & I, and along the way, and the wayside, we met flowers & plants, that I couldn't resist taking photos of, and sharing with you. They are so often not even noticed, unless you walk next to them, which I don't think happens a lot, as this was a not very frequented street.

tarentola mauritanica
echium vulgare
wayside pink beauties
poppies by the railroad

now don't go thinking we live in the countryside ... these photos were taken 5 minutes by foot from the heart of the city ! (for your information, Montpellier has over 250.000 inhabitants, and 1/3 of them are students -I'm not joking-)

so we picked enough flowers to make the solar dye, and we also picked some of them WITH the roots, then cut the roots at home & put them (not the roots, the flowers, I mean) in a vase with water. Last week, hubby & sons had brought me a small bouquet of them (with roots too) and they stayed very well in the water. So now you know, too. (even buds opened)

we also found a tiny visitor among the cornflower heads we had cut ...

a friendly visitor

we set her free, by sending her on a paper plane, to the private garden facing our building :D

I hope you all had a lovely, slow, cozy weekend. Next week is supposed to be sunnier over here.

we do not decide

  5. lovely photos Sonia. I took a photo very similar to your last one on this post, of cloud and sun last week. There is something incredibly beautiful about that kind of formation.

I'm hoping the blogger glitch has sorted itself, but just in case, don't be surprised if I seem to open you blog a hundred times after leaving this comment! I know it's a blogger fault as it's done it before.

I'm glad you boys are homebody's too, it's probably because they have a happy and creative home to enjoy :o)

Love cornflowers. I stand by my Flickr comment, and say that it's without doubt my favourite of your photos, and you have taken some brilliant photos over the years.

Got to scoot. Little one is griping about something! xx
