Rejoicing Over The Rain

Yesterday around midnight, as I was in my bed, it was pouring outside. Right before falling asleep, I apparently was feeling very positive (good, Sonia, good !) ... and thought in my tiny little brain that we all should rejoice over the rain, instead of thinking that it's going to be a grey, dark, chilly, muddy kind of day. What should we rejoice ?

1) we are alive ... yes, of course it was easy to say that, but that's absolutely true, we're alive, and not dying out of a serious illness, alone, in a hospital ...
2) if we can hear the rain fall ... then it means that we're not deaf !! Then we can rejoice at the fact that we don't have serious physical disabilities.
3) we are lucky to have a roof upon our head & lucky not to get wet (even though I know that there are a few people reading this who love to get soaked !)
4) and of course, it's good for the earth ! In the south we're forever lamenting that it never rains ... so even though rain is something VERY regular around Paris, I'll rejoice that it's raining !

OK, so that was the positive thinking of the day, thanks for reading. Or should I say, you can wake up now ! Wooohoo ! Are you there ? LOL
Yesterday afternoon I finally took the autumn decorations out & installed them on the top of the sideboard. Except one fake mushroom, all the rest was picked last year (or before) The leaves are still so crip, it's unbelievable ! There are acorns, pine cones of different sizes & shapes, tree seeds, and leaves from different trees & of different colors ! It really feels right as it's been raining (and grey & chilly) for two days now. I've been wearing my jacket too (after 3 or 4 months in the closet) & used my umbrella this morning. P asked me before going back to school for the afternoon, if I could bake chocolate chip muffins ... what a question, OF COURSE I CAN, sweetheart ! I'm honored to be asked, and as he loves hazelnuts, I'm going to add chopped ones & make half a batch with that, and as U loves white chocolate, I'm going to make the other half of the batch with white chocolate chips ! Now I only have to go to the supermarket to get butter because I won't have enough ! Ack !

I've just finished ironing the load of laundry I had washed yesterday. I am clearly determined to change my laundry-ing method, which, according to me, was not really organized. I used to let clothes from two or three or four loads, pile in the "to-iron" basket ... then I was overwhelmed by such a quantity to iron ! Well, of course, Sonia ! What were you thinking of ? Why did I never realize that I should iron a load the day it gets totally dry ?! That's what I just did, and as I had recently ironed till I saw the bottom of my basket ... well ... I don't have a single thing in my basket, and I didn't spend that much ironing one load of clothes ! Silly me ! I hope to be able to maintain that rhythm & I'll (almost) always be up to date with laudry !

My "Cozy Homemaking Book" is going along nicely, and as Chris used the laptop yesterday evening, I could focus on that without the distraction that the internet/checking emails & blog/checking Flickr/checking Etsy brings ...
My home is not 100% clean & tidy, I'd rather say it's 85% clean & tidy, and you know what, that's enough for me & for my family. We don't live in an appartment that would make the cover of a decoration magazine, clean from bottom to top, perfectly tidy & organized ... but you know what, I'm relieved I don't live in that kind of appartment, I'd be scared ! LOL
OK, off to the supermarket to get that butter !! This coming weekend we won't go to Paris but rather will focus on things to do at home with the boys, or outside, for the boys. I hope we'll go blackberry picking, probably for the last time of the season ... I have to look in my Gooseberry Patch for something yummy with blackberries ... mmm ... cozyness & yummy-ness ahead !
Oh, talking about blackberries, I was asked to allow use of one of my photo of blackberries (along with 140 other persons !) for an interesting article about the dying art of blackberry picking, on NowPublic website. You can read it here.
Have a delightful & cozy weekend ahead, sweet friends & readers ! :) Sweet thoughts for you ! :)

  4. Hi Sonia!
I LOVE the sounds & sights of rain too. It's been raining here all night and all of the morning too. It's very comforting and unless it really messes up my plans, I never complain about it.

I really like your photos of your fall decorations. I adore this time of the year and wish it stop being summer here (it's STILL really warm here!)

Have a wonderful weekend hon! Huggles

  5. Hi Sonia,
LOL I just saw on your friends blog list that you visited me a few minutes ago which must have been a couple of minutes before I posted my latest entry! If you get time to call back you'll see a new one :o)
Those autumn displays look lovely, I often do things like that for school. And yes it certainly does seem like autumn! I think it's a very positive thing to do.....thinking of the benefits rather than the disadvantages of rain. I'm pretty fed up with it though! There's been a report this week in one of the newspapers that people in the UK may suffer from Vitamin D deficiency by the winter due to the lack of sun there's been. So I'm going to make sure we get lots of cheese, fish etc to make up for it!
    Hope you're having a good weekend :o)
