today's activity is another session of embroidery, so well, there will be no other photos to share until the boys come home from school this evening, and it will be dark already & the photos will be all grainy & yellow. So I'll spare you this.
what I'm going to show you today are other stitches, many little stitches, very slowly stitched stitches ... not that it actually did take so long, but I do embroider only when I feel inspired to. I HATE to feel a pressure for doing this, otherwise I feel it will not look spontaneous & sincere.
you had been seeing (well, it was couple of months ago, already) little glimpse of it, here on the blog, or over there on Flickr. Now that the cushion cover (it was a cushion cover that I was making) has been completed, and delivered to its recipient, I can share photos with you.
I took this project in so many different places. It travelled to the beach, where I hope it captured the essence of the sea, the movement of the waves, the shape of the shells, the texture of the sand ... and the serenity & peacefulness that the sea can express or provoke inside your self.no complex or elaborate embroidery techniques, for sure, I was free to do it my way, and I didn't want it to be complicated ... when you are on the beach, you can see shells, you can feel the sand in your toes or your hands, you can hear the waves crushing & the foam create ... while being very complex, it is so very simple & peaceful. I hope the cushion exhales this sense of simple peacefulness, or natural serenity.
it was an amazingly tactile experience for me. So liberating too, maybe most probably because the recipient was very relaxed about it all, being herself an extraordinary stitcher, thinker, artist, and person in general.
I'm longing for another amazing experience like this one ... but wait until I will feel totally inspired. This was my first slow stitching experience & I hope, I can feel, it will not be the last one.
happy new week everyone, thanks for stopping by :)

Beautiful, meditative stitching. I love the back too. Did you print that band of cotton ribbon yourself? The recipient of this lovely cushion is very fortunate.
ReplyDeleteLove the cushion - love the coast - wish I was there right now.
ReplyDeleteSo many beautiful slow stitches.
ReplyDeletegosh, gosh, gosh. That has taken a while to sew! I love sewing by hand, but you are right, it can't be rushed and you really do have to be in the right frame of mind.
ReplyDeleteI love your cushion. You have captured the spirit of the sea perfectly, PERFECTLY, I tell you! :o)
Hope you are feeling a little cheerier this afternoon :o) xx
Adorable!
ReplyDeletebeautiful stitches
ReplyDeleteespecially the water detail

Such a beautiful project! I love the design, so organic and floaty.
ReplyDeleteThat's beautiful - you've captured the calm and the rhythm of the sea in summer so well. Lucky recipient!!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite part is all of it. But my extra favourite part are the sea foam bubbles on the surf - gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful cushion! I remember you had made a pin cushion like that and I know Margie got it! I was hoping you would make one more one day!And this big one is really lovely! Ariadne from Greece!
ReplyDeleteI am in love with each and every stitch, the well chosen inspirations and the beautiful fabrics. I look at it everyday and think long and hard about how in 2011 i will have its maker sitting on the couch ( if we ever do come inside) beside it and me.
ReplyDeletewow, I am amazed by the beauty of the stitches! WIth simple stitch you have managed to show the transparency of water. Amazing!
ReplyDeleteStunning is not a strong-enough word for this beautiful creation. I'm in awe of your talent. Befitting the equally awe-inspiring Margie!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful!! I love it! :)
