of shrooms & fossils

... that's what I'm going to talk about today. Well, let me rectify. That's what I'm going to show. Last Wednesday, during our day out in nature (see the two last posts, about it), I saw strawberry trees, pine trees, oak trees, star shaped moss ... and only a couple of shrooms, but I bet there were lots more, more deeply in the (pine tree & oak tree) woods. But these are the ones I saw.

and of course, I saw, and picked many fossils. (for those of you who are new to the blog, these fossils I'm talking about are around 200 millions years old, and are mainly amnonites & belemnites) On Wednesday, I found almost exclusively amnonites.

the next one is the trace left by a fossil (which wasn't there anymore) in the marl. But it's a VERY friable/breakable mineral & I didn't see the point of taking it home.

next, you'll see a tiny video of me picking two fossils. I did not stage the whole thing at all. Before I picked the first one, I thought it'd be fun to record it, so that's what I did. And, oh, another note, all the fossils I usually find are NOT that easy to find. Not always. These were simply begging to be picked.

I hope you enjoyed seeing these photos. I still have a handful of last photos to share with you.

hoping you're all having a lovely weekend. Thank you for stopping by !

  4. I am almost ecstatic to see these ammonites. I have never seen any as smooth as that before. The ones we find on the Jurassic coasts in the UK are far more ridged and segmented. These must be a different species. Seriously, you have made my day showing images of these.

  5. I am so... impressed... no thats not the right word, but anyhow... well so amazed at how you can just take a walk and find fosiles. They are beautiful!

  6. It's so neat to see all of your fossils! My husband and I are planning a trip to France this summer and I would love a few suggestions for fossil hikes. :)
