yesterday, while my mom & MIL took care of the boys, hubby & I left for a day of exploration, just the two of us. We left around 07.30am, and arrived where we wanted around 08.10am.it was windy and not too warm nor too cold for the morning. Our purpose was to walk most of the day (read = work out), to explore nature sans kid, to be together only, to collect bits & bobs too. We did them all !
let me share with you the best photos of what we saw on Saturday morning.after a very light picnic lunch, we had finished our exploration. We want to pick something to dye with. Unfortunately, the immortelle flowers & the Italian buckthorn we had picked in June, were not in the right shape for being gathered for dyeing. So I had a little glimpse of imagination, and I thought of picking something that grows really in huuuuge quantity over here, and that is not endangered. We dyed with it today so I'll be able to show something tomorrow.
so ... we did have some time after this exploration, so we drove a bit further & went to the place we usually go for looking for fossils. For a good hour, that's what we did. And we found some. OK, a good bunch.and some minutes before leaving, I made an extraordinary discovery. A fossil that I had never seen, nor never found. Imagine a second my reaction when I saw this :my smart friend Margie identified it for me (saving me sooo much time at the same time ! thanks again my friend !!), and it is a crinoid, or sea lily.so this is our bounty (picked in a matter of an hour)I'll have other interesting things to show the next couple of days, it would have been a bit too much for one post !
I hope you all had a lovely weekend. And that you girls in the southern hemisphere have started a new week on a great note.
please take good care of yourself, everyone

Oh, again I must say, I wish I had a place like this, where I could find at least a tiny bit of fossil. Your treasures are beautiful, and the sea lily is incredible.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures!Looks like you had a great trip! :0)
ReplyDeleteMy dad would be very excited about the fossils. He's a collector. We spend every summer of my childhood in Sweden (Gotland) where he (and us kids)collected fossils. Never saw a sand beach..hehehe...too boring for dad. :0)
I recognize a bunch of the fossils you found....
Have a wonderful day!

Wow! That sea lilly is beautiful. It looks like a small carved block like the ones used to print Indian textiles.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you had a wonderful day together, I'm so happy you did. Maybe there are some nice grandmothers near us that we could hire for the day (or two).
That's just plain fascinating! What a fabulous day and amazing finds! I love your photos!
ReplyDeletei love each and every picture in this post. I love the morning light and the fact that it was just the two of you the day before your anniversary. Hiking with the one you love is just so perfect in my mind.
ReplyDeleteOne day I hope we can go fossil hunting together.

Thank you so much for sharing your field trip! The photos are amazing, as usual. You are very fortunate that you and your hubby share the same interests. I will look forward to the dyeing experiment!
