last week hubby & I noticed on the wayside, when leaving our town to go to my inlaws', a long place with lots of blue (cornflower / centaurea cyanus) & red (poppies / papaver rhoeas) flowers. I knew that a mix of wildflowers had been sowed. It was really lovely & I thought I'd better look if I could dye with them. Because, quite frankly, even if I did take a handful or two, it would really be invisible. (I mean, I'm no thief, but this didn't ruin the whole thing) So I sent my men yesterday, to go grab a bit of them & take them home. That's what they did.
Yesterday they helped me picking the petals only. (only what I needed for dyeing) I'm off to dye with them, and even though the result is unpredictible, I had tons of fun playing with the petals, as you will see.if I had been able to, I would have dived in that small, floral cup (one of the VERY rare thing my paternal grandmother gave me) & swam in that cup of delicate blue, trumpet shaped petals ...
I'll see how the fabrics will dye with these tiny petals, but even if they hardly do, I will have had my share of magic before using them, and for this, I am already happy & grateful. I hope I can share this part of sweet little magic with you today.
and if you're inclined, please visit my friend Margie, who played yesterday with other petals & made very lovely ephemeral art. Or you can visit my friend Melissa, who's been painting other lovely flowers these days :)
I wish you a cozy & magical weekend ahead, dear friends
