juniper & green color

that's what my post is all about today.

this weekend hubby & I dyed with juniper cones (Juniperus oxycedrus to be precise) that we picked during our last trip to where we hunt for fossils. (yes, that was two good weeks ago) Of course I didn't expect a powerful color, it did give a light hue of beige, but it left on the silk traces that help me keeping hope for a new dye, and this time I'll use fresher, greener cones, and I'll see if it makes a difference. I don't know when this will happen, if I have to wait a year or if I can find these soon. This kind of juniper (cade in French) grows wild & a loooot in our wild areas, so really I'm not threatening nature or ecosystem to pick only a handful of them. So this is the final result, you will find further details on its Flickr page (just clicking the photo):

I'll make a little longer post over at Naturally Dyeing blog, later today. (I hope)

So today's color for Poppytalk Spring Color Week is green, and even more precisely, chartreuse. Well, I didn't know which kind of green it was until I looked on Wikipedia. It's a color halfway between yellow & green, apparently. THIS COLOR. Um, it happens that I can't find much of it inside my home, but a roll of masking tape that was part of a green pack. (and again, I don't think it's the perfect chartreuse !)

Let's try to find other photos that may fit the color ...

Beautiful lichen on a wall
Sun in the fern
Huge
Green
Green Caterpillar Pincushion 1
palm tress, Cairo, the pyramids & a sarcophagus (of course)

This last photo is a postcard of an artwork made very recently by U (5 1/2), at school. It's hanging in his bedroom. I could flood you with green photos, but it would make that post so much longer, and believe me or not, but it took me all day to write it, I typed a bit, did something else, typed a bit, went somewhere else, and so on ...

time is passing by waaaaaay too fast & it's soon time to go grab the boys at school, then we're hading to the library to bring back our books & take lots again. We heart libraries !! :) OK must go now. Take care, girls.

  2. Do you know I had no idea that chartreuse was that colour! Green is absolutely my favourite colour because the hues are endless. I used to enjoy getting the children to mix yellow and green to see how many shades they could make. I just watched an absolutely fabulous video and thought you might like it too....go to http://pbjunkies.blogspot.com/ and in todays post there's a vimeo video. Enjoy :o) xxx

  4. Ciao Sonia! Finally a little on-line time for me. I’m still in Italy (all white today, it’s snowing!), but I’ll be back next week. Hope you had a lovely Woman’s Day (giorno della donna) the other day. :) My mom and I got a bouquet of yellow mimosa, as tradition says.

How nice that you and your hubby are dyeing together! I love doing stuff with Zeno. :)

U is very talented! :D Like his mom! ;)

    Hugs & smiles!
