I think I'm a country girl at heart, and even though I've always lived in the city, small or big, north or south, I know I'd rather be in the country, in a small, old house surrounded by fields full of wildflowers, and not far from a little forest, where I'd go walking everyday. Oh well, that's still a dream, I suppose but it's good to hang on to dreams, isn' it ?
Yes. I have a soft spot for many many things, and red gingham is one of these things. (I think I have found another idea for series of Etsy finds ...) It's perfect for all seasons, it feels right for a summer dress or ribbon for wrapping Christmas presents ... it goes so well with plain linen or hemp, and just as good with cream crochet lace, don't you think ?
A bit of history & description now, will you ?
Gingham is a medium-weight balanced plain-woven fabric made from dyed cotton or cotton-blend yarn.
The name is Indonesian in origin, assimilated into Dutch. Gingham may be distinguished because it is almost always a checkered pattern. When originally imported (in the 17th century), it was a striped fabric, but from the mid 18th century, when it was being produced in the mills of Manchester, England, it had become woven into checked or plaid patterns (often blue and white).
Gingham is made of carded or combed, medium or fine yarns, where the coloring is on the warp yarns and always along the grain. Gingham has no right or wrong side regarding color.

I hope you enjoyed looking at these as much as I had fun finding them ! Not much time for crafts today except another set of flannel napkins done, so I'm fine with that. I'll do better tomorrow :)
Have a super nice start of the week, everyone ! xoxo
PS : do you like the new look here ? A bit school-ish, a bit old fashioned ...
Oh, I also meant to say that, in case I disappear from the cyberspace for a couple of days (or more), it's only because my laptop gave me bad bad signs the last couple of days, and I would have to restore it. (which I hope NOT) But, just in case, I prefer to warn you. It may happen tomorrow, or any other day.

Yay ! I love your new blog template, Sonia !
ReplyDeleteJust one litte detail (I hope you don't mind) :
I think I'd like the banner on white background even better, to get a deeper contrast with the beige background and to look more like a real school book page ...
I love the little jam-jars gift tags ! Yum !
They remind me of "Bonne Maman" jams ;)
Bises to you from Paris,

Hi Sonia! Gingham makes me think of picnics and also Italian restaurants. Thanks for your birthday wishes for Jessica. :) Looks like no Labor Day baby. Have a great rest of the week! (((Hugz)))
ReplyDeleteLovely new header. I am very partial to a bit of gingham (especially red) myself. It brings out the red riding hood fairy tale believer in me!
ReplyDeleteI love gingham, too my friend! My kitchen towels are red gingham and black gingham in all sizes. I love your gingham etsy finds :-) I may have to do a little searching myself now ...
