Tasty

This photo shows a slice of one of my MIL's classics, the Potatoe & Onion Omelette. It's simple, earthy, tasty, wonderful in a word. My MIL is an amazing cooker, she has her own classics, her inventions, or her variations of different dishes or other people's recipes. I'll share other recipes as I'll remember them & will translate them to share them here, with the permission of my MIL of course. She's the sweetest lady ever & loves to share (she'd give you her shirt if you'd need it, if you get the picture) so there'll never be a problem sharing her recipes here. :)

I'm sorry if the quantities or name of the ingredients sound weird to you, I translated the recipe on Flickr, and translated and typed while my MIL was telling me. So if you have any question, please ask in your comment, I'll try to answer if I can. {my English will probably not be at its best in this recipe, but nevermind, you get the idea, and if you don't, just ask)

POTATOE & ONION OMELETTE
for 6 persons

ingredients :
half a big onion (not red, peeled & sliced)
6 big potatoes (peeled, cut into cubes)
10 eggs
arachid oil
vegetal butter
salt

Peel & cut into cubes the potatoes, rince (you can leave them in the water while you do the rest).
Peel & cut the onion into slices. (no too big) Dry the potatoes with a towel.
In a pan, melt a tablespoon of vegetal butter and 3 tablespoons of arachid oil.
Pour the potatoes in the hot mix of oil & butter. Salt. Turn the potatoes, don't let get golden too early. Leave 5 mn, turning the potaoes often.
Add the onion, mix carefully with the potatoes. Cover the pan with its lid, cook 5 mn. Remove the lid, turn the potatoes & onion. The onion must be almost melted, and the potatoes golden. Check if the potatoes are not too firm (add some minutes if they're not cooked enough)
In a bowl, break 10 eggs, and beat them, salt them a bit, and add them to the potatoe + onion mix. Spread all over in the pan.
When the eggs have started to cook (they're firm, if you see what I mean), you can turn the omelette upside down with the help of a big plate. (this can be tricky but I know you can do it !)
You chose how you like your eggs, and cook some more minutes if it's not cooked enough.
You're done, enjoy your omelette ! :)

U's been feeling feverish since yesterday morning, with no other symptom. We've been giving him paracetamol, but still don't know what is going on. We don't know any doctor here, but will go find one if we do need it.

We had a blast at the concert on Saturday evening. Listening to Rhapsody in Blue gave me the goosebumps several times ...And yesterday afternoon, we went to visit Mucha exhibition, which is just around the corner. This exhibition was in Vienna from Feb 12th to June 01st, is in Montpellier from June 20th to Sept 20th, and will be in Munich from Oct 10th to Jan 24th 2010. It is breathtaking, and I can't wait to visit it again & again before it's over forever, to enjoy all the details of his art. We visited it with the boys & also attended a workshop with them, and they had a great time !I am extremely lucky to live VERY VERY close to this exhibition, and will try to enjoy at its fullest. Such a thing won't happen in a long while, I suppose.

Wishing you a nice start to the week. Sending you all my sweetest hugs & most positive vibes oxox

  1. I'd like to make a personal mini omellete! 10 eggs sounds dangerous and I will end up eating all the omellete good for 6!

  3. I'll keep this recipe in mind for when my parents and my in laws come to visit next month. It sounds like everyone would enjoy it. I don't know what arachid oil is, but I think I could probably use butter and olive oil and it would be just yummy.

I'm so happy to see you enjoying all of the cultural attractions Montpellier has to offer. My husband was telling me a little about your city; he spent his junior year in college nearby in Nice. It sounds wonderful!

    Hope U feels better soon!

  4. Patricia (and everyone), I meant "peanut" oil by "arachid oil". Our olive oil is very tasty (!) so I wouldn't use it for this recipe, but if yours is rather neutral, then you can use it ! :)

  5. At the risk of sounding ignorant, what is the Mucha exhibit? The artwork in the photo looks wonderful.

  6. Looks like a very tasty dish and a wonderful concert and exhibit. Glad you've found time to enjoy your new surroundings and not just stay in and unpack - although you're so organized Sonia that you've probably finished unpacking! I hope U's fever has subsided now, it can be worrying if they drag on.
    Have a lovely week :)
