Today's post will be light and sweet (at least for the beginning !) as I'm showing you some photos of my own childhood, taken during carnivals. The first photo on top was for a carnival at my grandparents' village (where we -my parents & I- and all of my aunts/uncles/cousins, used to gather every Sunday). The costume was made/sewn by my mom, I was supposed to be a nurse. Don't ask me the year or what age I was, I clearly can't remember, I'm sorry. (also sorry for myself, I have to add)

This was still in my granparents' village, and the daisy costume was also made by my mom. How I loved that costume ! It was a yellow tutu with white petals as skirt (sewn to the tutu, I mean). I also had a little flower as hat, and green tights that was so sweet. Of course, I suppose, according to my p*ssed off face on the photo, that I was annoyed to have photos taken ! LOL

Still in my grandparents' village, this time I was an indian (yes, very popular costume in the early 80's !) All made by my mom, once again. Now don't ask me where she put/kept all these costumes, because I'm sure we don't have them anymore. A bit sad, according to me, I wish I could touch them now. I hate this part of my parents, who never thought about thinking far in the future. They kept tons of useless things, and threw or gave things that I would have loved to have now. Such a pity, don't you think ? Oh well, that's life, I suppose.

This last photo was taken during a carnival when I was in preschool. I was approx. 5 years old. I can't believe the amount of work that was poured in each of these Japanese looking costumes !! I remember this carnival as if I was there. We had umbrellas ... everything did look perfect, and it was such an awesome time. Probably one of the best carnivals I ever attended to. Now they don't do this like that anymore, and it's a bit of a shame. In the school the boys've been for the last two years, there wasn't even a carnival. How sad was that ?! :(
OK, a bit of a
sad news now. I'm going to show you another photo, but not particularly a sweet one. A photo that makes you feel the pain. Ouch, in a word.
Yesterday afternoon, as I was crafting a bit (seriously, I had just begun ! grr), the director of P's school phoned me to tell me that P had had a small accident, he had bumped strongly in a post (or pole ?), and that he was injured. Oh my gosh. I ran to school, which, thankfully is accross the street, and I was told to go see a doctor right away. Thankfully, doctors are just 5mn by foot. We saw one, who told us he'd need two stitches. Lovely. We went to the pharmacy to grab an anaesthesing patch (sorry I don't know the right name in English) and came back home to apply it. Then we went to grab U at school, we returned home, they had their snack & by 05.30pm we returned to the doctor's, where P got the stitches done. He first had a shot done, to have a deeper local anaesthesic. He was brave, but I stayed all the time with him & observed the doctor as he was stitching along. We have to return there in 8 to 10 days to have the stitches removed. Now, this is the photo I took (only for the record & for the memorie, ladies) before applying the patch. This is the injury before the stitches, so turn your eyes if you think you're too sensitive. Uuuuuummmm ....
ready ??!
Sure ?
No doubt about it ?
OK, then
... I'll show you.

Ouch, you'll tell me, right ?! Poor little one, that must have been SO painful when it happened. My heart hurt so much for him. :(
I gave him paracetamol before going to bed yesterday & he had a good night.
OK, on this looooovely note, I'm going to wish you all a delightful Friday & a super cozy weekend ahead ! And oh, I wanted to say thanks for your response to yesterday's post. It was fun to make, and I'm glad it inspired some of you to eat more nuts. Nuts are good for you. Period. LOL xoxoxoxo
Poor little P! Auch! :( Hope he is better today.

Hi Sonia! First of all, funny that you have childhood photos today, too. Your mom was so creative with all your costumes. I remember from Elliot's visit that she was a wonderful seamstress. :) Adorable photos. I was an Indian and Jeff was the Lone Ranger on Halloween. :)
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about P's accident. Sounds like he was very brave and you were, too. Once Justin needed stitches on his leg and I went into the ER with him and almost fainted when they began to sew him up! Big help I was! ;)
Re FB- not sure how many people in France use it but I've heard it's big in the UK. I wouldn't suggest it for you- it's a time sink! (((Hugz)))
Poor P, it looks worse in this photo, soo deep. Hes such a brave lad indeed. It must have been awful for you to get that phone call.
ReplyDeleteHuge thanks for sharing your wonderful costume photos, such a wonderful insight to your past. The detail is stagering. It is such a shame you don't have them anymore. Its a lesson for all us mums to hang on to things.
Happy Friday babe XX
OH NO! Poor little guy! It's a good thing kids heal fast. My heart sank when I saw this because I went through the same thing when Claire was about 1 1/2 yrs old. Her chin smashed on a cement floor while playing at a store and split open. There was so much blood. It's a good thing our doctor was a block away because I don't drive. I had to buy anesthetic cream at the pharmacy because the doctor's office did not have any anesthetic shots. She told me to get her a popsicle while I was there and that helped a lot! It was SO scary and my heart ached the same as you... but I also felt guilty at the same time because I couldn't drive her to the hospital where they had the shots. She was a real trooper though... much braver than me! She still has the scar on her chin...
ReplyDeleteI am sure he is doing much better than you ;o)
Big Hugs, Laurraine xoxoxoxo
PS I really like the new border around your photos! Did you make it yourself? What program do you use?
First off, OUCH!! That looks painful. I've missed you and I've been a bad blog friend :( Loved seeing your pictures, how cute were (still are :D) you?!!! hehe
ReplyDeleteSlowly working on bringing my blog back from the dead LOL
