Now that's quite a couple, right ?! LOL
Gene Kelly "entered" my life several years ago, when one day we were watching an old film at my inlaws', on the satellite TV. That day we noted the name of the film down, and several years after, we managed to find it on DVD, on Amazon. That film was Take Me Out To The Ball Game (1949). Oh my, that's a fabulous film, even though you're not a baseball fan. (not saying that we are not - baseball is a great sport !) Gene Kelly & Frank Sinatra ... Esther Williams & Betty Garret ... these folks were tremendously talented ! The boys really adore the film, just as Chris & I do, and really, you should see them trying to dance (or sing !!!) like the actors !! That would deserve a couple of videos !!! It's so hilarious, but truly, sometimes they're not that bad ! Those boys have rhythm ! LOL We just watched it this evening & we had so much fun ! I've browsed YouTube to find you a couple of great scenes ... enjoy ! Yesterday after midnight I FINALLY finished my gift for Chris. I was so happy it was finished ! I just loved making it, specially for the love of my life. And now, I CAN show you ! It's a linen + felt pic (wall hanging), hand-embroidered & also machine-sewn, totally free-hand, no pattern involved. Materials : felt, two kinds of linen, vintage floral cotton fabric, and vintage black lace. Chris is, as you may know if you're a frequent reader, a deep & true Sherlock Holmes fan. (I am too, but he was waaaay before me !!) The back is black felt, and has two D-ring to hang to the wall. He absolutely loved it, and I was so glad about it !
And close-ups as well ...

Apparently yesterday I had checked my mailbox but had grabbed the deliveries from the day before. Today was Sunday (so NO mailman !) but I did check my mailbox (don't know why !) ... to discover another awesome & generous parcel from another friend ! You're all spoiling me !!! Can't believe that !! The parcel was coming all the way from Canada, from sweet (and multi-talented) Laurraine (from Patchwork Pottery - website + shop + blog) She sent the boys two fabulous stuffed ornaments (lucky boys !), and a button magnet (so pretty & handy, she knows I love buttons & I love magnets !!), and a GORGEOUS quilted teacup bag (and fulled of several yummy teas !!) ... I simply couldn't believe my eyes !

{ thanks just so much, again, my dear Laurraine, you spoiled me rotten ! }
OK, I'm going to stop here ... quite enough for one day, right ? LOL
Just a note to myself for some of the things I have to do tomorrow ...
- cutting the boys' hair
- ironing (quite a bunch !!)
- laundry
- working on several craft orders/projects
- preparing the wristwarmers tutorial
- translating the yoghurt + apple cake recipe
- cooking, washing, cleaning, tidying up everywhere as usual
- removing all Christmas ornaments & putting tree down
- ...
Today was again very sunny & again really freezing with a lovely wind that cuts your face with blades ... nice. At least we're alive !! (I mean, if we can feel any pain or any kind of feeling, that means we're alive !)
I hope you had a great weekend & that you're off to a great, efficient, busy or relaxing week (you pick !! LOL). Big hugs to everyone ! xoxoxo

I Love the gift for your husband! I knew it was a teacup from the sneak peek!
ReplyDeleteI am shocked that you received your Christmas-New Year's gift because I sent it only 2 days before Christmas! All the snow filled me with Christmas spirit and I needed to send it to my newest friend across the world! I am glad it made you so happy :o)
Hugs! Laurraine
oh, wow! what a sweet and personal and neat gift for Chris (you are so talented!) Hmmmm, I didn't know you were such Sherlock Holmes fans ... I'll have to keep this in mind now ;-)
ReplyDeleteWow - Laurraine has such gorgeous quiltings! I'd marked her in my favorites on etsy, thanks for sharing another talented crafter (the world needs as many as it can get)
Happy New Year! xoxo
What a fantastic gift for your hubs!!! That is so original and creative. I also LOVE that movie! I think we have a lot in common!!! Glad you had a good holiday...Happy new year to you too!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous gift you made for your hubby!!
ReplyDeleteYou have quite a busy day planned!! Have a nice day!! ((BIG HUGS))!!
Hi Sonia! That's great that you've discovered some nice older films- what's especially good is they are family films that you don't have to be embarassed to watch with your kids! Have you seen "Singing in the Rain"- Gene Kelly's most famous? The Sherlock Holmes gift is wonderful! (((Hugz)))
ReplyDeleteI love the Sherlock montage you made for Chris. I'm not surprised that he loved it. Such a personal and thoughtful gift, and handmade with love. You can't ask for more than that.
ReplyDeleteHas Chris ever been to Baker Street? It's where the head office of the company Bill works for have their premises.
I love all the goodies you've got!
I am itching to put away Christmas now, but I have to wait. Bill always likes me to wait until after his birthday, which is Friday. So I can get on with it at the weekend. Hurrah! I understand completely what you mean by saying you want to make room for the new year.
Ok. Time I was off. Have a lovely end to the month, and indeed the year! See you in '09!
xx
I've just been having a quick scan down at your earlier posts. I see you've had some very cold weather. Brace yourself, we are in for more starting next week (it's already freezing), so you are bound to get it too!
ooh. my comment has gone all nutty, the last paragraph was meant to be after the first para! I must have hit something and moved it!!! xx
ReplyDeleteHi there Sonia! Your gift to Chris is just lovely, how special that you made something so personal for him.
ReplyDeleteWe are freezing here too at our holiday house. Back home the weather has turned a little warmer, and I expect our snow will be gone by the time we go home. Stay warm, and cozy! Love & hugs xxx
Love your Sherlock hanging! And I wish all my Christmas goodies were safely tucked away, but hubby likes to leave them up till after New Years. I'm so looking forward to the wristwarmer tut -- waiting with baited needle.... = }
ReplyDeleteJust a quick visit to wish you, and your family a healthy, and happy New Year! Love & hugs xxx
