New Experiments

I love when people try new experiments. So last August, I told myself, why not me, as well ? Remember when I told you I'd try to wash the dishes with Savon de Marseille , as soon as my dish detergent would be over. Well, yep, it's over ! So I decided myself to give it a try ... mmmm ... let's see ...
... it was tricky, and even trickier because it was also the first time for me to wash the dishes with the fiber brush ... ahem, I felt a bit weird washing the dishes like that, but ... I felt like a woman a century ago, and it felt great, in a way. Not to mention that my kitchen is SUPER tiny & so badly configurated. Ugh.
... it was a bit tricky because soap is ... soap ! It is a bit slippery !
... I'll see if the smell of soap persists or not, I wouldn't like my dishes to smell like soap ! Eek !
... it didn't work that great for greasy things ... which doesn't please me much ... maybe I shall add a bit of white vinegar in the rincing water ... I don't know. I'll have to google a bit for that info.
... I'll have to do that again today to see how it'll be working again. I don't want to give up right now, right away after trying one time. See what I mean ?
Some of you must wonder why I'm bothering trying to do the dishes with soap & brush. Well, I'm doing my best not to pollute more than we all already pollute, and I think that as washing the dishes is a never ending task of a lifetime, it has to be the most respectful for nature. All liquid dish washing detergent come in plastic containers, and we're also obliged to buy sponges, that get used (and un-usable anymore) rather quickly. I absolutely hate all that waste. I never realized that there was so much waste for everyone, in every household, only to wash the dishes, gosh ! So that's why I'm doing my best to TRY at least to pollute less. But I'm not sure this is going to be a positive test. BUT I don't give up that quickly !

OK enough said about that for today.
It's so sunny & so chill now. Thank you Sun for shining, you make that early cold bearable. (we're still officially Summer & this morning it was 05°C outside ! I can't believe that !) I had a load of laundry washed & hung, and I'll have to iron all that I didn't iron (in the end) on Wednesday. Don't want to loose the good rhythm ! LOLI received earlier this week a parcel from Amazon, with books I had ordere a while back. (a month or 3 weeks ago) It was Gooseberry Patch books again. How much I love these ! This time I got "Celebrate Year Round" & also the 2009 calendar (but book size, not to hang on the wall, I mean) It's absolutely nice & pretty & I'm ready to start writing things inside & getting ready for next year, a bit in advance, I know. (you're never too ready, right ??!) Once it'll be a bit filled, I'll try to forget it (in a place I remember, of course !!) till the end of the year & then it'll appear like magic !! LOL Are you ready for fall ??!

OK, almost time for me to go pick the boys at school. I'll probably be posting twice today, or tomorrow at least. Big hugs to all OXOXO Have a great end of the week !

  1. good for you for perservering with the soap and brush Sonia. Not something I'm going to be trying though!

Yes, what a coincidence about the GP book. I have been patient, and continue to be so. I ordered it on the 5th Sept, along with another book 'Taste of Autumn Cookbook', and the 2009 appointment calendar. They are truly beautiful. My little rascal got her paws on the 2008 one, so every page has scribbles over it! Argh! I plan to be more careful with the 2009 one. I've checked my account, and it will be dispatched soon. I'm also waiting for the GP slow cooker recipe book too. I don't know if you care for wall calendars or not, but the GP one is beautiful. I already have it and my Susan Branch calendars hanging in the kitchen, ready for next year. No, you can never be too early with these things. I have my filofax refills for next year already set up! Humbug has a couple of books still to come from Amazon too, 'Rosie Flo's Kitchen Colouring Book', which seems to be on a very long wait, and a small library of C&L books. And I've just ordered her a Fifi & the flowertots dvd! Ha ha ha! I love Amazon, I don't know how I survived without out. I'm certain our bookshops in town don't stock Susan Branch or GP stuff, this is the only way I can get it.

Just been on the cookery website that I love so much and ordered some more cookie cutters and decorations! They should be here tomorrow,as they site is extrememly quick to send orders out.

Well, have a lovely weekend. Did you have any trouble with Blogger today, or is it just me?!

    xx

  2. Hi Sonia! I'm happy to see that the conservation movement is gathering steam again in the US. I know we are see as the worst consumers of energy and natural resources. I was in college during the first Earth Day and feel proud that it was my generation who tried to start these things over 30 years ago. The expense of gas is making people turn to greener alternatives... guess when it hurtsthe pocketbook, that's the best motivation. Enjoy the weekend! (((Hugz)))

  4. Hi Sonia, I give you a lot of credit for trying to be more Earth friendly :) and I give you a lot of credit for doing dishes that way... I think I would have found another way to conserve (mainly because I hate doing dishes, so the quicker I can get them done the better, lol) But Good for You!

I know I have said this before BUT I LOVE LOVE LOVE Gooseberry Patch books and I am just about to purchase their newest Christmas Book (I buy them every year) and I have so many other books from them that I stopped buying them since I have no where to put them all.

Have a wonderful weekend sweetie (oh - I really liked your 'because' post. Very creative way of telling us about everything going on with you.) Huggles

  5. Hey buddy, thank you so much for your wonderful comments today. I missed you yesterday, I was feeling very sorry for myself.

I will have to check out Gooseberry Patch books, huge thanks for the tip. The photos look lovely.

Well done you for trying out the eco dish washing experiment. I guess it is easier with dish liquid, but it does make one think about all the polution. I mean it would be easier to stick our children in front of the telly and feed them on ready meals but thats not good. I take my hat off to you babe, for this.

oh, I know I said it already but I LOVE your new jacket - really - wow! so classy,

Im off to bed, sorry if you hear me coughing tonight over in France, I'll try and keep the noise down. Much love, ClareX

  6. Hi Sonia! I had to smile at the thought of you toiling over your dishes with a scrub brush and soap, but good for you! And hey, good for all of us. Each little bit has to help. I tried a bar soap with coconut ash in it for my dishes and it worked pretty well. It's sort of gritty which helped with the slippery issue.

It's so nice to see your beautiful face! Now I feel like I "know" this sweet woman in France with the wonderful photographs.

    Have a great day, Sonia!
